What is a Parent Surgery?

Parent surgeries are short 30-minute online meetings where you can talk to us about any new or ongoing issues with your child’s Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan that you have not been able to discuss with your EHC Coordinator.

When to Use a Parent Surgery

You can book a parent surgery if or school can help you book if:

  • You have a new concern about your child’s EHC plan.
  • You have not yet been able to speak with your EHC Coordinator about the issue.
  • You need guidance or advice on next steps.

When Not to Use a Parent Surgery

A parent surgery is not the right option if:

  • You are already discussing the issue with your EHC Coordinator.

In this case, please continue working with them in the usual way.

  • You have an active complaint.
  • You have a live tribunal case.

If any of these apply, please follow the normal process you have already started.

Before the Meeting

To help us prepare and give you the best advice:

  • Please provide as much information as possible about your child’s case before the meeting.
  • Include relevant details, documents, or examples if you can.

Providing this information helps us prepare for the meeting and ensures we can support you effectively.

During the Meeting

  • The meeting will last 30 minutes.
  • We will listen to your concerns and offer advice or suggested next steps.
  • At the end of the meeting, we will make sure you are clear about the follow up actions.

All meetings must stay within the allocated time due to scheduling limits.
