Co-curricular life is an important part of the Trinity experience. Alongside their academic studies, students are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities that help them discover new interests, build confidence and develop valuable skills. We actively encourage all students to get involved and make the most of the opportunities available.
Societies are a vibrant and enriching part of Sixth Form life at Trinity, giving students the opportunity to deepen their academic interests and broaden their intellectual horizons. Led by both staff and students, our subject societies offer a dynamic space for discussion, debate and collaborative thinking beyond the classroom. Sixth Form students can get involved in a wide range of societies, including the Medicine, Dentistry & Veterinary Science Society, Literary Society, Physics Society, Psychology & Law Society, and History Society, among others. These groups inspire curiosity, build confidence, and help students prepare for competitive university courses through talks, reading, debates and student-led presentations.
We also offer an extensive selection of clubs, such as the Catholic Social Teaching Club, Glee Club, Oxbridge Applicants Group, DeSmart Club, Sixth Form Crime Book Club, Cipher Challenge Club, Debate Club, Computer Club, Orchestra, Volleyball Club, Chess Club and Netball Club.
The Extended Project Qualification offers students a prestigious Level 3 qualification that develops the independence, critical thinking and research skills highly valued by top universities. Students take full ownership of a project on a topic of their choice, producing either a 5,000-word report or a practical artefact, while receiving expert supervision and structured skills teaching. Previous projects have ranged from debating the ethics of stem-cell research and analysing the conservation of snow leopards to designing a mood light to support autistic children or creating an activity quilt for early development. The EPQ is widely praised by leading universities. The qualification also earns valuable UCAS points and provides students with a distinctive platform to showcase genuine academic passion, elevating their university applications and future prospects.
All students complete a programme of Core RE in Year 12 and Year 13. This contributes significantly to the formation of each student, supporting their growth as individuals who act with integrity, empathy and purpose. Through RE, students reflect on their values, their relationships and their sense of vocation and consider how they might use their gifts and talents in the service of others. This holistic approach ensures that students leave Trinity not only well qualified but also grounded in a strong moral framework and committed to contributing to the common good.
Competitions form an exciting part of Sixth Form life, giving students the chance to challenge themselves, explore their interests and develop confidence beyond the classroom. Our scientists regularly take part in national Biology, Chemistry and Physics Olympiads, while mathematicians participate in Senior Maths Challenges that stretch problem-solving and reasoning skills. Creative students also enter short-film and media competitions, showcasing their talent and imagination. Across the Sixth Form, subject departments set regular competitions that encourage curiosity and independent thinking.
